Author Guidelines – SciNex Journal of Advanced Sciences

1. Scope and Article Types

SciNex Journal of Advanced Sciences (SJAS) is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal publishing original research that significantly advances scientific knowledge. We welcome submissions across natural sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, health sciences, and interdisciplinary studies.

Primary Article Types:

  • Research Articles: Full-length original research (5000-8000 words).
  • Review Articles: Comprehensive, critical surveys of current research (6000-10000 words).
  • Short Communications: Concise reports of novel, urgent findings (2000-3000 words).
  • Methodology Papers: Detailed descriptions of new methods or protocols.

2. Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submission, ensure your manuscript adheres to the following:

A. Formatting Requirements

  • Template: Download and use our official Microsoft Word template: Template_SJAS.docx. This template contains all required styles and formatting.
  • File Type: Submit manuscript as a .docx file.
  • Length: As per article type limits (excluding references, tables, figures).
  • Language: English (US or UK spelling, but consistent throughout).
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt for body text.
  • Line Spacing: 1.5 lines throughout.
  • Margins: 2.54 cm (1 inch) on all sides.
  • Page Numbers: Include page numbers in the bottom right corner.

B. Structural Components (in order)

  1. Title Page: Title with italicized biological names, author names and affiliations, corresponding author email.
  2. Abstract & Keywords: Single paragraph (250-300 words), followed by 4-6 alphabetically ordered keywords separated by semicolons.
  3. Main Text: Structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion.
  4. Author Contributions: Statement using initials.
  5. References: Alphabetical, author–year style.
  6. Tables & Figures: Each on separate pages at end of manuscript, with captions.

C. Content Requirements

  • Abstract: Must not contain citations, figures, or undefined abbreviations.
  • In-text Citations: Use author–year format: (Smith, 2022) for one author; (Smith and Lee, 2021) for two; (Ahmed et al., 2023) for three or more. Multiple citations: (Lee, 2018; Zhang et al., 2020; Kumar et al., 2023).
  • Biological Names: Italicize at first mention in title and text (e.g., Escherichia coli).
  • Units: Use International System of Units (SI).
  • Equations: Number sequentially, center-aligned, with variables defined.
  • Ethics: For studies involving humans, animals, or biosafety, provide approval details and permit numbers.

D. Figures and Tables

  • Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI for images.
  • Formats: .tiff, .eps, .pdf for vector/line art; .jpg or .png for photographs.
  • File Size: Keep figures under 5 MB each.
  • Captions: Must be self-explanatory, placed in main text under the "Place for figure/table" marker in the template.
  • Tables: Use Word’s table tool (no images of tables).

E. References

  • Style: Follow APA 7th edition (author-year) as shown in the template.
  • DOIs: Must be included for all available references.
  • Journal Titles: Write in full, italicized.
  • Software & Instruments: Cite in text with developer/manufacturer details (see template Methods section).

3. Submission Process

  1. Register/Login via our OJS system.
  2. Ensure manuscript is anonymous (no author details in main text file for blind review).
  3. Upload:
    • Main manuscript (.docx)
    • Separate high-resolution figure files
    • Cover letter (optional)
    • Supplementary files (if any)
  4. Complete metadata entry (authors, affiliations, abstract, keywords).
  5. Confirm compliance with all checklist items.

4. Editorial and Ethical Policies

  • Peer Review: Double-blind peer review (average 4-6 weeks).
  • Originality: Only unpublished work not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Plagiarism: Screened via Turnitin; similarity must be <15% (excluding references).
  • Authorship: All authors must meet ICMJE criteria.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Must be declared.
  • Data Availability: Statement required; data should be deposited in repositories (e.g., Figshare, Zenodo).
  • Open Access: CC BY 4.0 license applies to all published articles.

5. Production Process

Accepted manuscripts will undergo:

  1. Technical Check: Formatting compliance using your submitted .docx.
  2. Copyediting: Language, grammar, consistency.
  3. Typesetting: Conversion to final PDF/XML.
  4. Author Proof: Sent for final approval (minor corrections only).
  5. Publication: Online first, then inclusion in an issue.

Important: Manuscripts not using the provided template will be returned, causing delays.
